This is our second building project, which is ongoing. It highlights several natural building techniques and gives a feeling of the process. “Cob” is the clay, sand, and straw mixture that makes up the walls. It is applied wet and monolithically, as opposed to adobe construction, which is a similar mixture that is first made into bricks.

This project: 198 large batches of cob produced by hands and feet between June 2023 and June 2024. (A winter work break was forced upon us because wet cob will freeze and crack.) The south side of the building with the large windows is the greenhouse, where all seedlings for the garden will be started.
